This summer we’re doing a six-week sermon series called “Grace Made Visible.” The series will focus on generosity and how we are called to steward our money and resources, as well as the spiritual gifts, explaining why God gives us specific gifts and what it looks like to practice them within the local church. The heart of the series will be about God’s intention for gifts, whether physical or spiritual, to be an outworking of grace and a means to bring glory to God and build up the church.
As a part of this series, we want to resource you well, especially given the sorts of questions and responses that come from teaching on this subject matter. One way we’ll do this is through the hashtag #askTVC. If at any point during the series, you have a question about something you hear in a sermon, we’d love for you to ask that question on Twitter or Facebook using this hashtag. Matt Chandler will then answer the top questions each week, on Tuesdays, in a video blog.
The other way we want to resource you is through the list provided below. In considering the topics of giving and finances and the spiritual gifts, we compiled some of our favorite resources that have helped many of our own elders, pastors and ministers in these areas.
YNAB – “This personal home budget software is built with Four Simple Rules to help you quickly gain control of your money, get out of debt, and reach your financial goals.” Note: We’ll be giving out a discount code to members and attendees at services in the weeks ahead.
Mint – “Mint does all the work of organizing and categorizing your spending for you. See where every dime goes and make money decisions you feel good about.”
MoneyWell – “MoneyWell is personal finance software that helps you proactively manage your spending using the envelope-budgeting system and keep track of your banking using direct connect and flexible importing.”
Books on the Spiritual Gifts
Showing the Spirit by D.A. Carson – “This book provides a thorough and even-handed discussion of key charismatic issues.”
Are Miraculous Gifts for Today? by Wayne Grudem – “This thought-provoking book will help Christians on every side of the miraculous gifts debate to better understand their own position and the positions of others.”
The Beginner’s Guide to Spiritual Gifts by Sam Storms – “Sam Storms will help you answer basic and foundational questions about the what, why and how of the unique gifts God gives to each of His children.”
We hope you consider these resources as you walk through the series and look for practical ways to bring what you’re learning from your head to your heart, making visible to others the grace of our good and generous God.
