Corporate singing on Sunday can easily turn into a spectator experience when people don’t understand their role in the church body. We create worship together. It is a shared experience between our body and our Lord.

Music disciples people, and the ability for us to record music that people can physically take with them is very important. On September 13, The Village will release a new worship album called Beneath the Canopy.

In creating this album, I wanted to open the project up to include more people and create more interest—a community effort. This led to Covenant Members of our church contributing to the album in a number of exciting ways:

  • Members wrote all but one of the songs.
  • Members performed, produced and engineered all the songs.
  • Members created artwork for the album.
  • Members captured the recording process on video to distribute to our church family and beyond.

In this way, Beneath the Canopy is very reflective of The Village as a whole and not one person or idea. In the very least what I hope you will take away from hearing it is a richer knowledge of and love for our great Lord. It is a great privilege to see the body come together, using the unique gifts He has graciously poured out for the mutual edification of our church family (Eph. 4).

This album is you, Church—the entire body in collaboration—expressing our love to God through music and the arts. Please pray during the upcoming weeks that God would use the chords, words, melody and art to glorify His name, build His church and extend His kingdom. Let us rejoice in one message—the gospel of the Savior.

We can’t wait to sing and celebrate with you.
